Always a designer...
I am a graphic and website designer living and working in Pukerua Bay, Porirua, Wellington. My roots are in Northern Ireland but are now entwined in this wild corner of Wellington.
Running my own design business for over 15 years has allowed me to live my passion for design, discovering the satisfaction of website design and building a client base of small businesses and not-for-profit organisations. Good design is good for websites – and good for businesses, too!
I have always been a creater at heart. I gained a Diploma in Visual Communication Design at Wellington Polytechnic (now Massy University) and specialised in advertising, working as an Art Direction in the ad industry in Wellington and Melbourne. I honed my skills there as a copy writer, too. There is always a need for creatives who can think in pictures and words. I’ve never been able to separate them… it’s all about concepts for me.
Which is where website design came in…
I discovered that web design is the ultimate combination of images and words and interaction – a giant puzzle I love putting together for my clients and adjusting until everything works perfectly. I really enjoy the process – talking to clients, creating a brief, coming up with a strategy and ideas and honing the details. I have a bit of a specialty in working with photographs – I pride myself on getting the most out of them, cropping and adjusting to perfection. I also have access to very affordable stock images and can create your own personalised graphics for web or print.
Whatever you need to accompany your website – I can help. I’m experienced in all kinds of brand, print, promotional and experiential design and love to give anything new a try. I also have a brilliant network of fellow professionals who can work with me on any specialist areas like Illustration, videography, advanced SEO, Google Ads and more.
Working with local businesses, community groups and non-profit organisations has been a great pleasure and I hope to do so for a long time to come. Whether you're here in Wellington or anywhere around the country – I'd love to hear from you.
When I’m not designing…
My latest exploration is developing my artistic photography skills, learning from other creative artists and getting out into the natural environment around Kapiti to keep my creativity and intuition flowing.
I’m trained in classical yoga and design personal yoga practices – another creative outlet and a practice for life.
I’m also obsessed with British TV drama and love to read, walk in the bush with my camera and swim in the sea every good day in summer.
